A two-vehicle accident in Harrison led to the death of a central Arkansas man. According to the Harrison Daily Times, 27-year-old Elijah Howard of Little Rock was pronounced dead Monday morning at the scene on U.S. Highway 65 South at Salmon Lane, and his passenger, a 15-year-old male juvenile, was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Harrison Police Chief Paul Woodruff says Howard was a transport driver taking the juvenile from Fordyce to another facility in Illinois. The teen was secured in the back seat of the vehicle with handcuffs and belly chains in use. Chief Woodruff says the northbound vehicle came around the curve approaching Salmon Lane just after 6 a.m. and veered into the path of a southbound tractor/trailer driven by 48-year-old Jeffrey Stonge of Yellville.

Chief Woodruff states there were no signs of Howard applying the vehicles breaks before the collision. Stonge wasn’t injured.

Harrison Police Department detectives were going to Springfield to interview the teen to find out what he might have witnessed before the crash, and officers were going to execute a search warrant on the vehicle Monday. Chief Woodruff says the incident remains under investigation.
