Top ranked 2018 football recruit chooses Georgia

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(NEW YORK) – Justin Fields, the top ranked college football prospect in the nation, has committed to Georgia.

Fields, a quarterback, is from Georgia and becomes the first number one overall prospect to pick Georgia since Matthew Stafford, 13 years ago. Fields also joins Stafford as the only two quarterbacks in the top five of their class to choose Georgia.

The Kennesaw, Georgia native originally committed to Penn State in December of 2016, but then de-committed on June 6.

Fields made trips to Georgia, Florida State, Louisiana State, Florida, Auburn and Alabama since opening his recruitment back up, but he visited Georgia the most, including the past two homes games against Samford and Mississippi State.

Fields becomes the third top ranked player in the state of Georgia to commit to the Bulldogs in the past four years, joining defensive tackle Trent Thompson, class of 2015, and athlete DeAngelo Gibbs, class of 2017.

Georgia now has 15 commitments in the class of 2018.
