Amidst the growing frustration of the crisis in Puerto Rico, one local resident is doing what he can to help and hopes others will follow suit. Chris Rivera lived in the Twin Lakes Area as a child, left, then moved back from the Chicago area in 2004. After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, Rivera says the catastrophe hit home because he has family who live on the island. He said he’s helped as much as he can, but hopes a car show he has planned will do more to help fellow Americans impacted by the devastation and bring more attention to the matter.
Automobile enthusiasts are asked to polish and bring their show vehicle Sunday afternoon, October 29th, from 1:00 to 4:00 to the Auto Services parking lot at 1793 Highway 201 North across from Baxter Lab.
Rivera says donated items will be accepted, however monetary donations are preferred because it is harder to get supplies to the island. CBS News reports most still don’t have electricity or drinking water and many roads remain blocked.
According to Rivera, funds raised will be put to good use.
Rivera says members of his family and others have completely lost everything they own. He encourages the community to come together for this event to help them know they are not forgotten.
