Calico Rock Community Care Program Director Rudean Lester has received the Acting Out Against Hunger Award from the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. The award was presented during the annual Hunger Action Month Breakfast in Little Rock on September 28th.

Approximately 220 hunger advocates attended the Hunger Action Month Breakfast. The highlight of the breakfast is the presentation of the Acting Out Against Hunger Awards recognizing individuals, nonprofits, businesses, government officials and local community organizations who have gone above and beyond during the past year to help end hunger.

Victoria Moore, Food Bank of North Central Arkansas Operations Director, was on hand to present Lester’s award on behalf of the Alliance and the Food Bank.

In presenting Lester’s award, Moore said, “Rudean’s outstanding service to her community and to the individuals who depend on her program is demonstrated through her intentional efforts to care for others. Rudean invests herself into the lives of her clients and goes well beyond the call of duty. She is a light in her community and someone who we at the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas look up to with respect and awe.”

The Calico Rock Community Care Program is one of the 80 partner hunger relief organizations within the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas’ network. Lester’s program serves as a food pantry and a USDA commodity distribution agency for the Food Bank and serves approximately 150 families and over 500 individuals each month.

In addition to the food distribution, Lester partners with the North Central Unit of the Department of Correction at Calico Rock to provide firewood to her clients and the community.
