Arkansas’s Lieutenant Governor will make a return to the Twin Lakes Area. Tim Griffin will be the featured speaker for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Baxter County’s Fall Award Ceremony Tuesday evening at 5:30 in McMullin Hall on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.

Baxter County’s Single Parent Scholarship Fund Treasurer Jackie Edmonds says $8,750 in scholarships will be awarded to 15 individuals seeking higher education certificates and degrees. The fund awarded 29 scholarships totaling $14,300 in Baxter County between last year’s fall and spring award ceremonies. Single Parent Scholarship Funds have awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships across Arkansas each year with support from partners and donors.

Much of the funding for the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Baxter County is from local donations, and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, the local chapter’s organization, is providing a matching grant of up to $7,000. This year marks the inaugural partnership of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund and the Cameo Club of Mountain Home to award a scholarship. With a $500 donation from the Cameo Club, funds from the matching grant will be combined to award a $1,000 scholarship from the local affiliate of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Lieutenant Governor Griffin is expected to speak about the value of education and the impact to the scholarship recipients and the state’s economy.
