3 MH girls advance to state tennis semifinals

Mountain Home’s tennis teams began action in the Class 6A State Tournament at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
The Lady Bombers are in a three-way tie for second place with Greenwood and El Dorado in the team standings. Jonesboro has the girls’ lead. Individually, Emily Heide won her opening match after a first round bye and topped her opponent in straight sets 6-1 and 6-0, and Elizabeth Lewis was eliminated in three sets after El Dorado’s Alexis Downum posted scores of 6-7, 6-4 and 6-2. In doubles action, Sydney Czanstkowski and Meagan Beck beat Amber Alzufari and Katelyn Bailey of Greenwood in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1, and they later topped Megan Barker and Abigail Van Sickle in straight sets 6-4 and 6-2. Sarah Godfrey and Chloe Nosari lost their opening match to Abigail Woodring and Madie Pelt of Greenwood in straight sets 6-4 and 6-0.
The Mountain Home boys are in a three-way tie for fourth place with Greenwood and Siloam Springs. Jonesboro is at the top of the team leaderboard. Billy Beck won his first singles match in straight sets after beating Machaiah Temple of Benton 6-1 and 6-1, but he later fell to Orest Los of Siloam Springs in straight sets 6-1 and 6-1. Sam Arp and C.J. Blackmon began doubles play by beating Matthew Mobley and Patrick Cook of Texarkana in three sets 6-1, 4-6 and 7-5, but they later were eliminated in straight sets after Cole Spain and Tristan Cato of Jonesboro posted wins of 6-1 and 6-0.

Burns Park is also the venue for the Class 3A State Tennis Tournament.
In girls’ action, Mountain View’s Macey Decker won her first singles match in three sets after beating Hannah Weatherford of Bismarck 2-6, 6-2 and 6-4, but she later was bounced by Emilee Seegraves of Piggott in straigh sets 6-2 and 6-1. Hannah Edgar and Jess Van Lear of Bergman started doubles play by topping Makali Sorrels and Ashton Dillard of Atkins in straight sets 6-0 and 6-1, but they later lost to Carson Smith and Bailey Fisher of Riverside in three sets 5-7, 6-2 and 6-4.
In boys’ action, A.J. Van Lear and Chris Carico of Bergman lost to Henry Schock and Jacob Miller of Episcopal Collegiate in straight sets 7-6 and 6-3, and Trent Brasel and Matthew Webb of Valley Springs fell to Josh Lymon and Carrington McDaniel of Piggott in straight sets 6-3 and 6-4. In singles play, Valley Springs’ Johnathan had two straight set victories as he topped Lucky Loftis of Newport 6-0 and 6-3 Braxton Barnes of Riverside 6-3 and 6-0. Teagan James won his first match over Jaydn Howell of Bismarck in three sets 6-2, 5-7 and 7-5 but later lost Harrison Janes of Episcopal Collegiate in straight sets 6-0 and 6-0.
