The Izard County boys’ basketball team was able to invoke the mercy rule Friday night during the Bad Boy Mowers Classic. The host Cougars beat up on Dermott 59-33. Justus Cooper led Izard County with 31 points and 17 rebounds, and Caleb Faulkner added 14 points. The Cougars are now 2-0 on the year.
Also in Friday’s boys’ games, Flippin edged out Caddo Hills 38-37, and Viola routed Abundant Life 57-25. On the girls’ side, Izard County topped Dermott 48-31, Viola was a 35-20 winner over Abundant Life, and Caddo Hills beat Hillcrest 38-24.
