In Thursday night’s meeting of the Mountain Home City Council the council struck down an ordinance to raise the city’s wholesale water rate by $ .13 cents per 1,000 gallons to citizens living outside the city limits. City Clerk Brian Plumlee says, with little conversation, the measure was struck down by a vote of four in favor and three against. Council members Dave Almond, Wayne Almond, Jennifer Baker and Carl Graves voted in favor. Nancy Osmon, Rick Pierce and Don Webb voted against the hike.In other council news, the council unanimously approved employee insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Plumlee says insurance rates will be approximately five percent less than 2016’s rates.

The council also approved a contract with Methvin Sanitation to be fully automated. Sanitation trucks will be able to pickup trash carts without human assistance. A public hearing will be held in the near future to gain citizen input on whether recycling should be an option for Mountain Home residents.

Another ordinance was unanimously approved to create a part-time laborer position for the Mountain Home Cemetery. The position will be funded through the city’s cemetery fund, with nothing coming out of the general fund.
