LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) A Sherwood woman convicted of diverting $611,000 from two employers has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker on Friday sentenced 53-year-old Lynn Alisa Espejo to 45 months. A jury convicted Espejo in February after prosecutors said she stole money from companies that handled expense reimbursements for doctors.
The government said Espejo used the money to build a new home and a swimming pool, and also for a trampoline and vehicle payments. Using one of the companies’ debit cards, she also bought groceries including snow crab, bacon and popcorn balls.
Jurors convicted Espejo of four counts of filing false tax returns, 15 counts of wire fraud and six counts of money laundering. The woman must also reimburse the doctors and the Internal Revenue Service.
