NFL expects contract extension for commissioner Roger Goodell to be completed soon

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said that there was no projected date by which the deal would be locked in, but that “our expectation is this will be wrapped up soon.”

The deal would extend Goodell’s term through 2024. He has served as commissioner since 2006.

Lockhart noted Thursday that NFL owners voted unanimously to move forward with negotiations for an extension. That vote included Jones.

To this point, Lockhart says, negotiations have been “productive” and “amicable.”
