That was the 21-gun salute followed by the playing of Taps to conclude Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony. The annual event was held Saturday at the Mountain Home Plaza 2000 across from the Baxter County Courthouse.

Arkansas State Representative Trevor Drown of Dover was the guest speaker at the ceremony. Drown is currently serving in his second term in District 68. He was born in Mountain Home, but he has been a lifelong resident of Pope County.

Drown is also a Master Sergeant in the Second Battalion of the 20th Special Forces Training Detachment. He has served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and as a Green Beret on the Horn of Africa. His decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star for Service and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor.

Drown began by recognizing surviving World War II veterans. He then thanked all veterans and their family members present at the Plaza. Drown says even before he served in the military, he grew up being surrounded by veterans.

This wasn’t Drown’s first recent visit to the Twin Lakes Area. Nearly a month ago, he spoke at a God and Country rally in Calico Rock. Drown says he is proud to serve both, and that service lasts a lifetime.
