A judge in Douglas County has ordered a mental examination for a man accused of posting an online video of himself violently killing a litter of puppies.

KHOZ reports Circuit Judge Craig Carter ordered the exam this week during an arraignment hearing for 30-year-old Josiah David Wheat of Vanzant, who is charged with five counts of felony animal abuse.

The charges were filed after the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls regarding the post.

A probable cause statement for the case states that Wheat posted a video of himself with the puppies before and after beating them to death with an aluminum baseball bat.

Officers arrested Wheat on August 31st in Mountain Grove. Officers received consent to search his vehicle and found the baseball bat believed to be used in the killing.
