A school bus owned by the Mountain Home School District, and parked in the lot at the local Harps’ on Highway 62 Business, caught fire early Thursday morning. Mountain Home Fire Marshall Gary Pyszka says emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:30. When they arrived there was a small fire underneath the bus. The fire was quickly extinguished. Pyszka says it appeared the positive and negative cables came into contact with each other or shorted out causing the fire.

There were no injuries.

Transportation Supervisor for the Mountain Home School District David Pitchford says the wires were located near the starter. He says although vandalism hasn’t been completely ruled out, it’s likely the fire was unintentional. He says a similar incident has happened once before in the parking lot at the bus barn next to Pinkston Middle School.

The bus involved in Thursday’s fire is salvageable.

It is parked at the lot at Harps to recruit substitute drivers for the district.
