The Christmas season began in Mountain Home on Friday. The annual Myrtle Wood Chamberlain Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was held at the Baxter County Courthouse Square featuring a patriotic theme honoring veterans of the United States' military branches.
Vietnam veteran and former First Security Bank president Larry Nelson gave the Christmas message. Early on in his speech, Nelson said when veterans take the oath to serve, they never know what to expect for their future.
Nelson added the oath veterans have taken does not contain any conditions other than to faithfully discharge their duties, and that oath concludes with "So Help Me God."
As he drew near the conclusion of his message, Nelson said there are similarities between the sacrifices veterans have made and the sacrifices of Jesus.
The evening concluded with the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade.
