Izard County boys, Mountain View girls win in Lyon College semifinals

Three area basketball teams were in Batesville Friday for the Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament.
Izard County advanced to the boys’ title game after pulling away to defeat Mountain View 54-34. Justus Cooper led the Cougars with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Caleb Faulkner scored 14 points, and Mike Uecker added 13 points. Izard County remains undefeated in 14 games on the season.
Mountain View fared better in the girls’ semifinals. The Lady Yellowjackets invoked the mercy rule on Highland with a 78-29 decision.

Mountain Home Christian Academy was able to sweep a pair of boys’ games at home against RUSH from Springfield.
The Eagles took the varsity game 77-73. Mountain Home Christian was led by Cooper Long with 24 points, and Matt Woods chipped in 19.
Mountain Home Christian began the night by winning the junior varsity contest 37-27. Trenton Cox was the J.V. Eagles’ top scorer with 14 points, and Stone Robinson finished with ten.
