A Baxter County man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of a late spring vehicle theft after DNA evidence was recovered at the crime scene. Fifty-four-year-old Michael Pedry of Gassville was escorted Saturday afternoon by the Gassville Police Department to the Baxter County Detention Center where he was booked on a felony count of theft of property and a parole violation. His bond was set at $2,500.

The Mountain Home Police Department received a report in June of a vehicle parked at a local repair shop being stolen. The vehicle was located the next day abandoned on a county road south of Mountain Home. A blood smear was recovered from the driver’s seat belt bracket, and it was sent to to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for processing. The DNA from the blood was a match to Pedry.

The owner of the vehicle informed an officer he didn’t know Pedry, and there was no reason for him to be in the vehicle. The owner also stated he owned the vehicle for several years.
