The Izard County girls won their opener in the NEA Invitational Basketball Tournament Tuesday at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. The Lady Cougars defeated Armorel by a final of 48-28. Abby Brashear led Izard County with 17 points, and Harley Thomason added 13. The Lady Cougars improve to 8-10 on the season, and they’ll return to First National Bank Arena Saturday to meet Riverside in the quarterfinals.
