LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)   The vice president and chief operating officer of a medical school in New York is a search committee’s choice to become chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

University of Arkansas System President Donald Bobbitt says he will recommend cardiologist Dr. Cam Patterson to the Board of Trustees.

Patterson is currently at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Weill-Cornell Medical Center and is scheduled to take over at UAMS on June 1.

He succeeds retired Chancellor Dr. Dan Rahn.

Senior vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost Stephanie Gardner is serving as interim chancellor and was the other finalist for the post.

The selection comes after two previous finalists both withdrew from consideration.
