Convicted felon hauling 3 firearms when arrested

A Searcy County man, 44-year-old David Dean Jones of St. Joe, was arrested by Cotter Police on Christmas Eve after he was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

According to the probable cause affidavit made available Wednesday, during the traffic stop, a revolver was observed between the seats in Jones’ vehicle.

A check of the Searcy County man’s drivers license and criminal history revealed two felony convictions in 1996 for possession of controlled counterfeit substances without prescriptions third offense. Jones pled guilty to the charges in October 1996 in Marion County Circuit Court.

Jones resisted arrest but was placed in custody. In addition to the .357 revolver, the officer located a .38 Special and a .410 shotgun in the vehicle.

Jones was charged with felony possession of a firearm by certain persons, along with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $10,000. Online records from the Baxter County Detention Center indicate Jones was released from custody Wednesday morning. He is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court in January.
