MH hoops teams split district openers with Batesville

It was a split for the Mountain Home High School basketball teams at home Tuesday night against Batesville in the 6A/5A-2 District openers for both schools.

The Bombers posted a 56-45 victory. Mountain Home never trailed in the game, building a 13 point lead in the first half before the Pioneers closed the gap to seven at halftime. Batesville was able to stay within 8-10 points until Mountain Home pulled away in the fourth quarter and built a 20 point lead and hung on to win by 11.
David Wehmeyer had another double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Luke Kruse added 14 points. Mountain Home has won four of their last five to improve to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Batesville, who falls to 2-12 and 0-1, got 17 points from Dylan Clem and 12 points from J.P. Morgan.

In the girl’s game, Mountain Home had a 14 point lead slip away and lost to Batesville 40-37.
The Lady Bombers used a 16-2 run in the first quarter to open up a 19-5 lead. By halftime, the Lady Pioneers had knocked it down to seven points and Mountain Home led by five going into the fourth quarter. But, the Lady Bombers would only score two points in the final eight minutes and Batesville took the lead for good with 1:05 left and got the win.
Hannah Pfiefer led the Mountain Home attack with 14 points. The Lady Bombers fall to 7-8 and 0-1.
Batesville improves to 10-4 and 1-0. They got a game high 18 points from Taylor Griffin.

Mountain Home will travel to Vilonia Friday night.
