Gainesville man held on child molestation charges

A Gainesville man, 57-year-old Michael W. McCullough, is being held in the Ozark County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond, accused of child molestation involving a girl who was younger than 12 when the molestation began.

The Ozark County Times reports McCullough is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning on three felony charges, all involving accusations of child molestation.

According to the probable cause statement, the mother of the girl contacted the Ozark County Sheriff Office in late November who said her 12-year-old daughter had told her that McCullough “had been sexually touching her for the past three years.”

After being advised of his Miranda rights at the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office, McCullough reportedly admitted to acting in ways the girl had described but said he was “just ‘goofing around.”

In the statement, it is noted McCullough “poses a danger to the victims and witnesses to these offenses and may attempt to intimidate the victim and her mother.”

A warrant was later issued, and McCullough was taken into custody Friday.
