Norfork girls, Omaha boys win Northark tourney

The North Arkansas College High School Basketball Tournament came to an end Saturday at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison, and both championship games required an overtime period. Norfork took the girls’ title for the second consecutive year as they got past Jasper 61-55. The boys’ championship went to Omaha after they edged out Deer 58-56.

Gainesville’s girls ended up with a runner-up finish in the Sparta Lady Trojan Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs lost the title game to Blue Eye 46-29.

Dora took fourth place in the Mountain View-Liberty Girls Tournament. The Lady Falcons fell to the host Lady Eagles 55-44.

A few area schools took part in the Hillcrest Junior Invitational Tournament Saturday in Lynn.
Mammoth Spring’s boys beat up on the host Junior Screamin’ Eagles 50-22. Chris Cray led the Junior Bears with 13 points, and Zack Flynn added 11. Mammoth Spring advances to Thursday’s semifinals where they will meet Corning.
The Izard County boys invoked the mercy rule as they routed Crowley’s Ridge Academy 48-14. The Junior Cougars were led by Coby Everett with ten points and 14 rebounds, and Chase Orf grabbed ten rebounds. Izard County remains undefeated in 16 games on the season.
Izard County did not fare as well on the girls’ bracket. The Junior Lady Cougars fell to Hillcrest 42-12.
