Summit man arrested for 2017 scrap metal theft

A Summit man, 29-year-old Ruben Newton, was arrested and booked into the Marion County jail New Years Day on charges of theft of scrap metal, criminal trespass, fleeing and failure to pay fines. His bond has been set at $2,855. According to a press release issued Thursday, Newton’s arrest stems from an incident that occurred in October 2017, in which two other individuals, Leeann Kenniston and David Beard were arrested without incident. Newton had fled the scene.Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans says on October 26, 2017 the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local business owner reporting the theft of scrap metal from the property. Video surveillance from the scene indicated the same vehicle and individuals had stolen scrap metal on the nights of October 25th and 26th. All three of the alleged suspects were identified by the video.

Kenniston and Beard were charged with theft of scrap metal and criminal trespass. Both were booked at the Marion County jail and are currently out on bond awaiting trial.
