Charges amended in Hargett case

Gary Hargett of Mountain Home changed his plea to guilty on charges stemming from him allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl in the summer of 2016 and was given 12 months probation and credit for more than 200 days he has spent in the Baxter County jail.

The state amended the charges against him and he pled to sexual assault in the fourth degree which is a misdemeanor.

His plea came during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, in addition to the physical contact between Hargett and the girl, there were transmissions of nude images between the two.

The 30-year-old Hargett maintained that while various types of sexual activity did take place, the girl was the aggressor.

Hargett was released from the Baxter County jail Thursday.
