When the first wintry mix of the season blanketed the Twin Lakes Area this week, the Baxter County Road and Bridge Department was equipped with a new plan to expedite the distribution of its salt treatment for clearing snow packed roadways.
Baxter County Judge Mickey Pendergrass says keeping an eye on military surplus property led the county to the equipment it is utilizing to expedite snow removal.

Tuesday Judge Pendergrass said the new plan worked with very good success, citing the Promise Land Road as an example, allowing the spreading of the salt mixture while scraping almost to the county line much quicker.
The judge says preparing for events like this weekend is a year-round process.
