Tom Larimer, head of Arkansas Press Association, retiring

(AP) _ The head of the Arkansas Press Association for the past 14 years is stepping down.Tom Larimer became executive director of the Arkansas Press Association in 2004 after a long career in newspapers. The organization represents more than 110 daily and weekly newspapers in Arkansas and 130 associate members. Larimer also headed the Arkansas Freedom of Information Coalition.

The 69-year-old announced his retirement Wednesday.

Larimer is a Berryville native, a Navy veteran and a graduate of Arkansas Tech. He worked at his family’s newspaper business and later at papers in Nevada, Missouri; Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Nashville.

The association said it would begin seeking a replacement immediately.
