A Baxter County man, 42-year-old Dennis Amaral of Mountain Home, is being held without bond in the Baxter County Detention Center as a result of an ongoing drug investigation. Amaral has been convicted previously of 13 felony offenses.

Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel says Amaral sold a substance believed to be methamphetamine, field testing positive for the properties of the drug. The substance will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for verification. Chief Manuel says the drug transaction took place near a church.

Amaral was in possession of $677 during the time of his arrest Tuesday. The investigation continued Wednesday and an additional $7,980 was recovered from his vehicle.

Amaral has been charged with felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, proximity to certain facilities, and unlawful use of a communication device, as well as being a habitual criminal offender.

He was arrested by investigators with the 14th Judicial Drug Task Force and Arkansas State Police.

In December, Amaral was given five years in prison on a variety of drug-related charges, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm. With previous felonies, he is not allowed to be in contact with firearms.
