FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) A Fort Smith man has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s 18-month-old daughter.
Tyree La’Mont Williams entered the plead Wednesday in Sebastian County Circuit Court.
The Arkansas medical examiner’s office has ruled the death was due to blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
The girl died Jan. 30 after Williams and the child’s mother took her to a Fort Smith hospital. Both were arrested on unrelated charges after police were called because the death was considered suspicious.
Williams was formally charged with murder on Feb. 2. Court records do not show charges against the mother in connection with the child’s death.
