Norfork girls among local teams advancing to regional finals

Regional semifinals were held throughout Arkansas on Friday, and there were mixed results among the local high school basketball teams.

The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament is being held this week at Armorel.
Norfork’s girls are now one win away from the regional title. The Lady Panthers invoked the mercy rule again as they beat up on Maynard 76-40.
Norfork’s last opponent in the tournament will be Bay. Mammoth Spring fell to the Lady Yellowjackets 49-42. Whitlee Layne led the Lady Bears with 18 points, Stephine Henry added 11 points, and Brianna Hocum grabbed 15 rebounds. Mammoth Spring drops to 28-10 on the season.
Izard County will move to the third place game of the boys’ bracket. The Cougars led a nine-point lead slip away as they were edged out by Bay 46-44.

The Rural Special girls lost their semifinal game in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The Lady Rebels suffered a 54-48 defeat at the hands of Wonderview.

The semifinals of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament were held at Alpena.
Lead Hill’s girls were sent to the third place game. The Lady Tigers fell to Kingston by a score of 57-48.
Jasper will be the Lady Yellowjackets’ opponent in Saturday’s title game. The Lady Pirates got past Alpena 57-53.
Omaha will look to settle for third place on the boys’ side. The Eagles ended up losing to Deer 63-44.
Omaha’s last opponent in the tournament will be Western Grove. The Warriors lost the other semifinal game to Kingston by a final of 53-38.

Melbourne hosted the semifinals of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament.
The Lady Bearkatz were sent to the third place game. Melbourne was defeated by Riverside 44-36.
Mountain View will be the Lady Rebels’ opponent in Saturday’s championship game. The Lady Yellowjackets squeaked by Hoxie 52-49.
The Valley Springs boys ended up losing their semifinal matchup. Osceola beat the Tigers 67-60.

Dora’s boys were able to secure a state tournament bid in Missouri. The Falcons won the championship of the Class 1, District 4 Tournament on their home floor after topping Bradleyville 77-51. Dora improves to 24-5 on the season, and Eminence will be their sectional opponent when they meet Tuesday in the Class 1 State Tournament at Mountain Grove.
