Sex offender Hargett moves out of Baxter County

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public a registered sex offender has moved out of Baxter County.Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 30-year-old Gary Hargett, who had been residing at 1282 Rodney Cutoff in Jordan, has moved to a residence in Texas.

Hargett was charged August 1st, 2017 with one felony county of sexual assault in the second degree. Documentation indicates in the summer of 2016 Hargett engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a then 15-year-old female victim. He negotiated a plea in January to a misdemeanor offense of sexual assault in the fourth degree and was sentenced to 12 months probation.

Montgomery says Hargett is not wanted by law enforcement at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather it is his belief that an informed public is a safer public. This information cannot be used to threaten, intimidate, or harass Registered Sex Offenders. Citizen abuse will not be tolerated. Such abuse could potentially end law enforcement’s ability to do community notification.
