Race for BC judge contested; questions remain at close of filing period

The political filing period closed at noon Thursday and while it may have done so quietly in many locations across the state, in Baxter County there was a level of excitement with one filing for county judge being questioned.

Baxter County and Circuit Clerk Canda Reese says 24-year-old Peter Kashpureff of Mountain Home has attempted to file as a republican challenger to incumbent Judge Mickey Pendergrass.

Reese says the dates are critical in this situation because Kashpureff will turn 25 two and a half weeks after the general election.

Reese says her office is in contact with both the Arkansas Board of Election Commissioners and the Arkansas Secretary of State in an attempt to resolve the question of candidacy.

She says while they had hoped to resolve the matter Thursday, she's hoping to settle the question as quickly as possible.
