NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) North Little Rock School Board members want district leaders to draft a proposed policy and budget for increasing safety and security on the district’s 13 campuses.
Officials asked for the drafts at a meeting Thursday. Their request comes after last month’s mass shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 dead.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that high school students and district officials want more of a police presence on campus, expanded use of metal detectors and weapons searches.
Superintendent Kelly Rodgers told board members that students are planning a vigil on school safety to which community members would be invited to listen to student speakers.
Rodgers says policy and budget drafts could be ready for review as soon as the board’s next meeting later this month.
