Flippin Elementary was one of just ten schools in the state to receive the Outstanding Reading Initiative to Student Excellence, also known as the R.I.S.E. award, from the Arkansas Department of Education. The award was received during the Arkansas Department of Education Science of Reading Conference in Hot Springs held in early March.

Flippin Elementary received this recognition for their commitment to promoting a culture of reading and for strengthening reading instruction. The R.I.S.E. Arkansas encourages a culture of reading by coordinating a statewide reading campaign with community partners, parents, and teachers to establish the importance of reading in homes, schools, and communities. Flippin has begun this year’s implementation in Kindergarten and first grade and expects the training and initiative to move into grades second through fourth grade next year.
