A local school administrator will return to the sidelines for the next basketball season. Izard County High School Principal David Harmon was selected as the district’s new junior and senior high girls’ basketball coach for the 2018-2019 school year.

Harmon will succeed Tim Massey who is stepping down to assume some administrative responsibilities for the school district. Harmon will also continue with some high school administrative responsibilities and coach boys’ and girls’ golf.

Harmon has 23 years of basketball coaching experience at Izard County and the former Williford School District with nearly 500 career wins. Under his direction, the Izard County High School boys won the Class 1A state championship in 2008.

Harmon has also had success as the school’s golf coach. The Cougar boys have won the state title in 2010, 2011 and 2017 and were runners-up in 2015 and 2016. The Izard County girls finished as runners-up in 2009.
