(AP) _ A federal judge has granted a school district’s request to bar a 15-year-old student from campus after allegations he posted a photo on social media holding a gun.The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker ruled in favor of the Vilonia School District, citing “significant interest in maintaining school safety.”

The district filed a lawsuit against the teen’s parents on March 27 after suspending the student, who receives special-education services.

The boy’s parents transferred the case to federal court, citing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The federal law requires public school districts to provide students with free and equal educational opportunities.

Baker has enjoined the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act until a hearing officer appointed by the state Department of Education can determine the best placement for the teen.
