State Land Commissioner and Secretary of State candidate John Thurston will be the featured speaker Tuesday evening when the Baxter County Republican Committee meets at 6:00 at Western Sizzlin in Mountain Home.Thurston is serving his second term as Commissioner of State Lands, where he manages a $40 million annual budget. He has returned over $118 million to the counties in Arkansas.
The Secretary of State is charged with maintaining the State Capitol grounds, including security for the Capitol building. The Secretary of State is also responsible for working with the state’s 75 counties to ensure fair and accurate voting.
Thurston is a lifelong resident of Saline County.
Current Secretary of State Mark Martin is term limited, preventing him from seeking re-election to the position.
