ABC/Image Group LALindsay Ell has her first top-20 hit in the U.S. right now with “Criminal,” and appropriately, for the music video, she turned to a life of crime.

“It was a very busy day,” she says of the shoot. “I stole a car, committed a crime, got put into prison, broke out of jail — all in one day.”

“But I love shooting music videos,” Lindsay continues. “I feel like they really bring songs to life. And our little mini-movies — our director Peter Zavadil took this vision and really just took it to a whole other level. And we had a blast shooting the music video for ‘Criminal.'”

The clip was filmed on location at the former Tennessee State Prison in Nashville, the same place where Devin Dawson shot his video for “All on Me.”

“It was the same place they shot Green Mile,” Lindsay adds. And it’s been closed for 20 years, I think. But I felt like we were on set in The Walking Dead. It was just so cool.”

As “Criminal” continues to climb in the States, it’s already been a #1 hit for Lindsay in her native Canada.
