An inmate in the Marion County Detention Center, 40-year-old Matthew Dean Stephenson of Yellville, has died after becoming ill and being transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center.
Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans says Stephenson became acutely ill Saturday evening at approximately 7:44. Upon assessment by the jailer, a call was immediately placed for first responders and an ambulance.
Stephenson was non-responsive up and until his arrival at BRMC, where he was pronounced dead. His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death, which remains under investigation.
Online jail records indicate Stephenson was incarcerated on a hold for the Arkansas Department of Correction. No other details on his charges were made available.
