Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard has declared Friday as “Feed the Pack Day.”

“Feed the Pack Day” is a one-day effort led by Arvest Bank and the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas to collect monetary donations in surrounding communities in support of the food bank’s backpack program, as well as other area backpack programs lead by schools and other hunger relief organizations in North Central Arkansas. Backpack programs send snacks home with children who face food insecurity on weekends and holidays, times when they don’t have access to their school meal programs. The Food Bank of North Central Arkansas supports more than 600 children in Baxter County alone through its backpack program.

“This is an opportunity for our community to make a lasting impact in the lives of hundreds of children in our area and the good news is that a small donation goes a long way,” says Dillard. “For every dollar that is donated, our food partners can provide five meals for children. I hope we will all work together on ‘Feed the Pack Day’ so the results from this event fill many, many backpacks with supplemental food for months to come.”

On Friday, Arvest Bank associates and local volunteers will collect donations at intersections and major storefronts in Mountain Home, Gassville, Yellville, Salesville and Flippin.

Volunteers will be located at three key intersections in Mountain Home and Gassville from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They also will collect donations at the entrances of both Harps Food Stores and Town and Country Discount Foods in Mountain Home, SunFest in Gassville, Dollar General in Salesville, Harps Food Store in Yellville and the Walmart in Flippin, all from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Individuals or groups who would like to volunteer at Feed the Pack may contact Tiffany Watkins with Arvest Bank at twatkins@arvest.com, by phone at (870) 449-7164, or they may sign up at http://signupgenius.com.

This is the third year Arvest Bank and the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas have organized “Feed the Pack Day.”

Feed the Pack is part of Arvest Bank’s *th Annual 1 Million Meals campaign to collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations in support of local food partners to help reduce hunger in local communities. Every Arvest Bank market works with a local food partner, so all donations made in a particular community stay local.

The goal of the two-month, bank-wide effort is to collect enough nonperishable food or monetary donations to provide at least one million meals to local, hungry families. One dollar can provide the equivalent of five meals. Donations may be dropped off at any Arvest Bank location by June 2nd or by calling (866) 952-9523. Arvest credit card customers also can donate Arvest Flex Rewards™ points by http://arvestflexrewards.com and clicking on the 1 Million Meals banner.
