MH baseball, softball teams clinch state tournament bids

The Mountain Home High School baseball and softball teams clinched state tournament bids Saturday as both began action in the 6A-East Conference Tournament at McClain Park.

In baseball, the Bombers shut out Jacksonville 6-0 on Pitts Field. Gage McClain picked up the win as he struck out 12 batters. Trace Aungst led the Mountain Home offense with three hits and an RBI, Luke Kruse provided two hits and drove in two runs, and Luke Dibble added two RBIs. The Bombers improve to 10-17 on the season, and they’ll compete in the conference semifinals on Tuesday.

Mountain Home dominated in softball action and invoked the mercy rule in the sixth inning as they routed Pine Bluff 15-4 on Freedom Field. Reagan Hasselwander took the victory in the circle as she pitched three innings and gave up no earned runs, and Lauren Loving was credited with the save with three innings and one earned run. The Lady Bombers were led by Marcie Cudworth with three hits, a run and two RBIs; Maly Tabor provided two hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in four more; Addison Yates had two hits and three RBIs; Grace Gilbert ended up with two hits, two runs and two RBIs; Bella Bevel finished with a hit, two runs and an RBI; and Courtney Green added a hit and scored twice. Mountain Home is now 13-14 on the year, and they’ll travel to Marion Tuesday for their semifinal game of the 6A-East Conference Tournament.
