Sales tax numbers down again in April

Spending in Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home show a negative trend as reflected in the April sales tax numbers recently released by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.In Baxter County, the numbers released for April, which reflect sales tax collected in February, show a 3.4 percent decrease compared to last year, according to Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize.

Newly appionted city treasurer Rita Murray says sales tax numbers for the City of Mountain Home are down for April compared to last year by $72,653.71 or 19.22 percent and the city portion received from the county is down $5,397.40 or 3.42 percent for the month.

The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities. Mountain Home leads the way with $152,254, Gassville collected $25,416, while Cotter picked up $11,864. Lakeview took in $9,063. Norfork received $6,250. Salesville collected $5,504. The City of Briarcliff netted $2,887 and Big Flat received $1,272.
