A resolution supporting the controversial C&H Hog Farm in Newton County is on the Baxter County Quorum Court’s brief agenda Tuesday evening at 6:00.The non-binding resolution is sponsored by District 11 Justice of the Peace Ty Chapman of Norfork.

The proposed resolution notes a similar document was passed by the Newton County Quorum Court in February. The resolution describes the C&H operation as a family-run farm demonstrating an exemplary record of compliance with regulations and environmental stewardship.

The resolution is addressed to Governor Hutchinson, the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. It notes Governor Hutchinson has publicly expressed support for C&H and agreed with the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission in its granting of a stay for the recently denied Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality permit. Supporting the resolution indicates C&H should be allowed to supplement the permit record through the appropriate appeals process.

A similar effort in Marion County to pass a resolution supporting C&H was tabled by the quorum court in March by a vote of 6-3 to allow time for a public meeting on the topic. The justices were asked to consider the resolution on a recommendation from the court’s procedures and management committee. In Baxter County, the resolution did not go through a committee process.

The quorum court will consider two routine housekeeping ordinances Tuesday evening, along with a third re-appropriating funds within the rural fire services budget.

The quorum court meeting will be held in the second floor courtroom of the Baxter County Courthouse.
