The Arkansas Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation Commission approved over $42 million in state aid to assist in funding 29 school building improvement projects across the state including two in Boone County. The Valley Springs and Harrison school districts were both awarded funding for warm, safe and dry system replacements.

Valley Springs was awarded over $255,000 to go toward a roof replacement for its elementary school. This is in addition to the $1.96 million the district was awarded last year for the construction of a new high school.

Harrison was approved for nearly $162,000 for improvements to the junior high school. The funding will go to multiple roof replacements on the campus.

One area school’s attempt at applying for state funding was unsuccessful. Viola was seeking nearly $497,000 to fund three projects for HVAC improvements.
