One of Mountain Home’s biggest fundraising events has come to an end. After at least 35 years of providing entertainment, the Twin Lakes Shrine Circus will not return to the Baxter County Fairgrounds.

Twin Lakes Shrine Club member and circus ringmaster Frank Fusco says the Kelley-Miller Circus, who had operated the Twin Lakes Shrine Circus for several years, was bought by another company in recent months. Fusco says the new owners had committed to continuing the Twin Lakes Shrine Circus, but they recently contacted the local Shrine Club and informed them the company was going out of business. Fusco adds circuses are continuing to become more expensive to operate.

The circus has served as a fundraiser for Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis for over three decades. Fusco says the Twin Lakes Shrine Club’s major philanthropy is transporting chidren to the St. Louis facility and to other hospitals on occasion. He adds much of the funds went toward the cost of transportation, food and overnight stays for children and their families.

Fusco says the Shrine Club will be working to come up with ideas for a possible new fundraiser.
