The Excel Boats plant in Mountain View is set to undergo a $1.9 million expansion and add 30 or more employees, according to a company executive.

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports the announcement was made Tuesday, a day after Tennessee officials disclosed the company will build a $9 million, 100,000-square-foot production center, and, within five years, employ nearly 200 people in the Tennessee community of Ridgely.

Excel representatives say the company makes an “affordable and tough” line of aluminum boats.

The company’s national sales manager, Dave Reynolds, says the Mountain View plant totals 42,000 square feet and employs 75 people. Reynolds says the expansion will add 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space and allow Excel to employ an additional 30 to 35 people.

Reynolds says the plant builds boats at the rate of one every 139 minutes. After the expansion, it will have the capacity to build one every 90 minutes.
