Several baseball, softball teams to make up regional openers Friday

Baseball and softball make up the local Friday schedule as several teams will be in makeup action.

After being delayed because of weather, the Class 3A Region 3 Baseball Tournament will get underway at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison with Bergman designated as the host school. Yellville-Summit will begin the action at 10 a.m. against Manila, Valley Springs meets Corning at 12:30, and Melbourne faces Piggott at 5:30.
Harrison will also be the location for the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament as Omaha will be the host team. The Eagles take on Jasper at 12:30, Bruno-Pyatt plays Alpena at 3:00, and Lead Hill will be paired with Decatur at 5:30.
The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Izard County is cancelled again Friday due to Thursday’s rain. The tournament begins Saturday morning.

In other high school baseball, Gainesville hosts Morrisville.

Omaha will also be the host school for the Class 1A Region 1 Softball Tournament to be held at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. Lead Hill begins action against Decatur at 10:00, Jasper faces Shirley at 12:30, Bruno-Pyatt takes on Omaha at 3:00, and Rural Special plays Deer at 5:30.
Salem will compete in the semifinals of the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto. The Lady Greyhounds meet McCrory at 2:30.
Bergman will host the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament in Harrison. Valley Springs takes the field first against Rivercrest at 10:00, Mountain View faces Manila at 12:30, and Melbourne takes on Walnut Ridge at 3:00.
