Local baseball, softball teams have mixed results in regional action

Several area high school baseball and softball teams began regional action on Friday.

The Class 3A Region 3 Baseball Tournament got underway at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison.
Yellville-Summit watched its season come to an end in the first game. The Panthers fell to Manila by a final of 12-1.
Melbourne did not fare any better in the last game of the opening round. The Bearkatz were eliminated by Piggott 11-1.
Valley Springs was also one and done in the tournament. The Tigers lost to Corning by a score of 9-0.

Harrison is also the location of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament.
Bruno-Pyatt was bounced from the opening round. The Patriots suffered a 28-3 loss at the hands of Alpena.
Lead Hill was able to secure a state tournament berth. The Tigers shut out Decatur 18-0.
Omaha was also able to advance to the semifinal round. The Eagles posted the 14-9 decision over Jasper.

The Class 1A Region 1 Softball Tournament is also being held at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
Bruno-Pyatt’s season came to an end in the first round. The Lady Patriots fell to Omaha 10-0.
Rural Special will be the Lady Eagles’ next opponent. The Lady Rebels blanked Deer 15-0.
Lead Hill will join Omaha and Rural Special in the semifinals. The Lady Tigers shut out Decatur 15-0.
Jasper fell short of a state tournament bid. The Lady Pirates lost to Shirley 8-6.

Salem did not fare well in the semifinals of the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto. The Lady Greyhounds fell to McCrory 6-1.

The Class 3A Region 3 Tournament began at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
Melbourne was ond and done after the opening round. The Lady Bearkatz lost to Walnut Ridge 7-3.
Mountain View clinched a berth to the state tournament. The Lady Yellowjackets defeated Manila 8-3.
Mountain View’s next opponent will be Rivercrest. Valley Springs was toppled by the Lady Colts 10-0.
