With the kick off of the political season, KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot begins a series of forums.

The series begins Monday morning at 9:15 on KTLO-FM with host Bob Knight and political newcomer and republican candidate for Baxter County judge 24-year-old Peter Kashpureff.

Kashpureff’s attempt to enter the judge’s race at the eleventh hour in early March caused a stir when it was questioned on the basis of 25 being the minimum age for the position.

At the time Kashpureff attempted to file for office, Baxter County and Circuit Clerk Canda Reese said she received word from the Secretary of State’s office to place Kashpureff on the ballot as a candidate for county judge based on case law.

Kashpureff will turn 25 years old two and a half weeks after the general election.

Kashpureff will face incumbent Judge Mickey Pendergrass in the primary election. Judge Pendergrass will join Bob Knight at 9:30 Monday morning as the judge’s forum continues.

The 65-year-old Pendergrass is seeking his fourth term as the county’s chief executive officer.

This election marks the first time for four-year terms for county-level positions. In 2016, voters increased the term lengths for elected county officials from two to four years.
