A Marion County man, 35-year-old John Vanboskirk of Yellville, has been sentenced to one year of supervised probation on a reduced charge in connection with a domestic incident with his 70-year-old mother in late 2016. The negotiated plea agreement in the case in which Vanboskirk head-butted his mother twice indicates she requested the no contact order be waived.

According to the plea statement made available online Friday, Vanboskirk’s sentence was reduced from a felony level charge of second-degree domestic battery to a misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy reported he met with Vanboskirk’s mother at Baxter Regional Medical Center where she was being treated following the altercation with her son.

She told the officer Vanboskirk has psychological issues, had been abusive to her for quite some time, and she had just dealt with it. The woman said when she arrived home earlier that day, Vanboskirk starting throwing food and mail and head-butted her on the left temple when she got out of her vehicle. She was still on the ground when her son head-butted her again on the right temple. He then came at her again, and she put her feet up to keep him away.

Vanboskirk’s mother drove him to town, dropped him off and then drove herself to BRMC. She told the officer she would be willing to file charges against him, if it would help her son get help.

Online jail records indicate the Yellville man was arrested February 14th, 2017 and was released from the detention center almost a year later on January 24th, 2018.

Online court records reflected the case was pending for a psychological evaluation and indicated April 19th the examination had been completed.

The plea statement indicates Vanboskirk shall undergo a screening for drug and alcohol abuse, as well as anger management, and comply with recommendations of those screenings.

In addition, Vanboskirk was ordered to have no contact of any sort with his mother, the victim in the case. However, the plea statement notes his mother has waived this requirement, and Circuit Judge Gordon Webb approved the request.
