Students throughout the Yellville-Summit School District recently held a week-long drive in an effort to raise money to reduce hunger in North Central Arkansas. The drive was successful, resulting in over $1,000 raised and enough monetary donations to provide 21,750 meals to benefit the district’s Food for Thought Backpack Program. Through backpack programs, children who face food insecurity are sent home with backpacks full of snacks on weekends and holidays, times when they don’t have access to school meal programs.

Students spent a week collecting spare change from family members, neighbors, and the community, as part of a friendly competition to see which grades in k-6th and 7th through 12th could collect the most change. The first grade class won the k-6th grade competition with a total of $926.43 and 12th grade won for the 7th through 12th with a total of $377.19.

Students in the lower and upper school grades who collected the most change received an afternoon at the City Park and lunch provided by Arvest Bank.
